Editorial: Meetings and Good News

Dean Hanne Flinstad Harbo reminds everyone of the faculty's spring seminar for all staff (in Norwegian) on 19th May from 14:00 to 16:00. In May, there will also be a meeting with new professors and associate professors. The dean is pleased with the EVALMEDHELSE evaluation from the Research Council of Norway (NFR) and the strong number of applicants for our programmes.

Unique opportunity for PhD candidates at the facultyGrete Dyb

We are working hard to organise a great summer school for our PhD candidates at the Faculty of Medicine, together with 20 other faculties in the Nordics, says Research Dean Grete Dyb. The summer school has been a success. Last year, we gathered 180 candidates in Helsinki. We hope for at least as many for our summer school at Blindern in August. Professor Malmberg has been honoured with the prestigious King Olav V's Cancer Research Prize for his groundbreaking work on how the body's own cells can detect and eliminate cancer.

  • UiO: From 19th to 23rd May, there will be elections for the University Board. This year, candidates will be elected for all staff voting groups: 

    ?    Two representatives for permanent scientific staff
    ?    One representative for temporary scientific staff
    ?    One representative for technical and administrative staff

  • UiO: UiO Introduces a New System for Reporting Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Incidents. Employees have so far reported HSE incidents through the "Speak up!" pages on uio.no. This will continue to be the case – the webpages will just look slightly different.

  • UiO: Tell us about your travel habits to and from work and help us reach our climate goals! The university will map how students and staff travel to and from our campuses. The results from the travel habits survey will provide us with an important knowledge base to help us achieve our climate goals by 2030.

  • Uniforum: N? ryker gratisparkeringen for universitetsansatte og studenter:
    UiO vil i 2025 innf?re en ordning med betalingsparkering. En reduksjon i antallet parkeringsplasser ligger ogs? i kortene. 

  • UiO: New AI tool available for all UiO users: NotebookLM is a powerful AI-driven tool from Google designed to help users create, organize, and analyze content. It will be useful for both students and staff and is now available for free to everyone at UiO.

  • Uniforum: Debate: AI – our much-needed administrative assistant, by senior advisor Aleksandra Weder Sawicka at the faculty administration.

  • MED: All our PhD candidates have been invited to apply to participate in the Norwegian championship in research communication, Forsker Grand Prix. Application deadline: Friday, 9th May.

  • UiO: A large number of research environments across all faculties are performing at a high international level, according to UiO’s annual report for 2024. UiOs ?rsrapport for 2024 (in Norwegian). 

  • UiO: Cultural offerings for staff: The show and the info about this offer is in Norwegian. We now have a good price for preview performances of B?rd Tufte Johansen's new stand-up show in August. The show is called "Pr?ver ? v?re positiv"/ "Trying to Be Positive."

  • 16. juni: Hold av datoen for "Workshop om gode flervalgsoppgaver i medisinstudiet". Vi inviterer til en workshop p? Blindern fra kl. 9 - 12., hvor vi utforsker utvikling av eksamensoppgaver innen medisin. Fokuset vil v?re p? innhold fra humaniora, samfunns- og atferdsfag, relatert til temaer som profesjonalitet, kommunikasjon, skikkethet og etikk. Vi vil diskutere aktuelle rammeverk og modeller for ? utvikle slike oppgaver, og det vil bli satt av god tid til ? jobbe med egne oppgaver som kan brukes i fremtidige eksamener. 

  • 10. - 12. august: NorDoc PhD Summer School Oslo 2025. The summit provides a unique opportunity for PhD students within Health Sciences across the Nordic countries to meet, engage in scientific discussions and to build networks.

Forebygging gir bedre helse i befolkningen, men flere av oss n?r en alder der ressurskrevende sykdommer er utbredt. Samlet effekt p? helseutgiftene er liten.
 

Kvinne innestengt bak gjerdeKlinmed: Kvinner isoleres oftere under fengsling i Norge. Ny rapport fra SERAF viser at b?de kvinner og unge voksne oftere plasseres i isolasjon i i norske fengsler, sammenlignet med andre innsatte. Ogs? bruken av tvang og sikkerhetsceller har hatt en betydelig ?kning blant kvinnelige innsatte.
